NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The hunt is on for a man who robbed and sexually assaulted a senior citizen in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon.

According to authorities, the suspect knocked on the door of an 83-year-old woman's apartment inside the Castle Hill Houses on Saturday just before 1 p.m. When the senior answered, the suspect pushed his way inside and attacked her. Before leaving, police said the suspect stole the victim's cellphone and some jewelry.

Some neighbors were in absolute disbelief when they found out what happened.

"I can't wrap my head around it," Laura Goodwine said. "My prayers go out to the family. They really do."

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was diagnosed with several broken ribs and bruises to her face, CBS2's Liverman reported.

Anyone with information about this attack is asked to call NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. You can also submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers website, by Tweeting @NYPDTips or by texting a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
