Police Questioning Person Of Interest In Brooklyn Woman's Brutal Ax Murder

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A woman is dead and another is in critical condition in what police believe may have been a brutal ax attack inside a Brooklyn apartment.

Authorities say a person of interest in now being questioned after police responded to a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. at the Bushwick houses on Flushing Avenue.

Officers found 20-year-old Savannah Rivera inside the eighth-floor apartment with multiple stab and slash wounds to her head and body.

The woman's fingers had also reportedly been cut off in the attack.

Officers have recovered a bloody ax from a trash compactor at the scene.

According to her family, Rivera was visiting a friend at the Bushwick houses when she was murdered. The 20-year-old leaves behind a four-year-old son and was reportedly three months pregnant at the time of her horrific death.

Police also found a 21-year-old woman with lacerations to her head and across her body outside the building. She was taken to Elmhurst hospital in critical but stable condition.

Investigators told CBS2 the 911 call came from an Uber driver who noticed the injured 21-year-old woman was covered in blood. The driver was reportedly there to pick up that woman.

That hospitalized woman's four-year-old daughter was found inside a bedroom in the apartment and had not been harmed. The child was taken from the home for medical evaluation and is now staying with family members.
