NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The NYPD released its Fourth of July security plans during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.

Millions of people are expected to attend the 43rd annual Macy’s fireworks show.

This year, the fireworks will launch from the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River. Organizers say more than 70,000 shells and effects will be deployed from the bridge and four barges near Pier 17.

“With the iconic Brooklyn Bridge as our centerpiece and four barges lining the East River, we will launch an unprecedented barrage of color, light, sounds and shapes that will delight millions as they hum along to a patriotic and stirring musical score celebrating our Independence and landmark cinematic achievements,” Executive Producer Susan Tercero said in a press release.

There will also be a special “The Wizard of Oz” tribute, as the film turns 80.

The show starts at 9:20 p.m. and is expected to last about 30 minutes.
