Police Search For Suspects Behind 2 Gunpoint Robberies In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police say they're searching for two men behind two gunpoint robberies in the Bronx.

The incidents happened about 30 minutes apart early Sunday morning in the Claremont section.

Police said the suspects held up a 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman around 4 a.m. near 187th Street and Prospect Avenue, making off with an iPhone and necklace.

The second incident was caught on camera shortly after 4:30 a.m. near East 174th Street and Selwyn Avenue.

Police said the suspects robbed three men at gunpoint, hitting two of them in the head with the weapon.

One suspect could be seen on video pointing a gun at one victim. He then moves to another victim, who is face down on the ground, and checks his pockets for items.

They allegedly got away with two cellphones and a wallet with $180.

The victims refused medical attention on the scene but later went to Bronx Lebanon Hospital on their own.

"It's alarming to me, because I work here at BronxCare Hospital and I'm always in this neighborhood. It's the first time I'm hearing of it, but it's not the first time hearing of so many gun violence and robberies and break-ins in the Bronx," Bronx community activist Sidney Flores told CBS2's Jenna DeAngelis. "We need to bring back foot patrol."

Police said in both incidents, the suspects sped off in a gray car driven by another person.

Anyone with any information about the robberies is asked to call NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. You can also submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers website, by Tweeting @NYPDTips or by texting a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
