Sewage Spill In Connecticut River Closes Local Beaches To Swimmers, Fishing

WESTPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) – A sewage leak in the Saugatuck River has forced Connecticut officials to shut down some local beaches.

All beaches in the town of Westport are closed to swimming and fishing. Sherwood Island State Park is also closed.

The beaches will remain closed until the water is tested. That process is scheduled for Monday.

Officials blame the leak on an aging pipe that was in the process of being replaced.
