2 Men Seen On Video Robbing 18-Year-Old Woman In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police are searching for two men seen on video robbing an 18-year-old woman last month in Brooklyn.

The frightening ordeal was caught on camera shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 27 in the 1100 block along 60th Street near 12th Avenue in Borough Park.

Police said woman was walking home alone when the suspects came up behind her and demanded money.

Surveillance video shows her on the ground with the men towering over her. At one point, she tried to call for help, but police said one of the suspects snatched her cellphone and smashed it on the ground.

The men allegedly made off with approximately $270. The victim was not physically hurt.

"A lot of things are happening in this neighborhood and it's kind of getting dangerous now," said Kenny Ng, a resident of Borough Park.

Wei Zheng, who was robbed not far from this block, says he understands the fear the teenage girl must have felt.

"I mean I always turn around, look behind my back and just be aware of my surroundings," said Zheng. "Nothing else you can do about it."

"It's the education, they got no values in life anymore," Jose Mendez, works in Borough Park. "They don't have values for others, they don't have respect anymore. I don't think it's just this neighborhood, it's all around."

The location of the robbery is mostly commercial, but parents in the area say they've always considered this neighborhood to be safe because of the many families with children who live here.

"These things happening here is very unusual, and very surprising, because the police department (is) very close to this area as well and they usually monitor a lot," said Lana, another Borough Park.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. You can also submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers website, by tweeting @NYPDTips or by texting 274637.
