Modell's Files For Bankruptcy, Plans To Close All Stores

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Modell's Sporting Goods has filed for bankruptcy.

The New York City-based business will close all of its 153 stores in the Northeast.

The family-owned chain was founded in 1889 and is best known for selling local sports teams' jerseys and youth league equipment.

The company said the retail environment is very challenging right now.
