NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Jon Bon Jovi is writing a song about the coronavirus outbreak, but he wants your help to finish it.

The singer posted a video on social media of the unfinished song called “Do What You Can” along with the same hashtag.

“These are uneasy times we’re dealing with, but we’re all in this together,” wrote Bon Jovi.

He wrote the first verse and chorus of the song and asked for people to send in their own verse that details their experience during the outbreak.

“Here’s my idea. We write this one together. I’m going to give you the chorus, I’m going to give you the first verse, I’m going to play the second verse, but you tell me your story,” he said.

Bon Jovi’s song focuses on the uncertainty many people are feeling right now with schools and businesses closing down.

“When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can. This ain’t my prayer, it’s just a thought I’m wanting to send,” sang Bon Jovi. “Round here we bend but don’t break. Down here we all understand. When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can.”

Many people chimed in on social media in response to the song using #DoWhatYouCan.

One woman’s verse focused on the perspective of a nurse working on the front lines of the outbreak.

Some fans even posted their own videos singing the verses they created.

“Just remember, we’re gonna get through it,” said Bon Jovi. “So sing your song, you and me together, and remember when you can’t do what you do, do what you can.”

    Dear Jon Bon Jovi,
We hope you keep well and can sing a song for our wonderful son and our beloved Vivi Dee so far away.
We are Americans of the older kind; a disabled veteran with a civilian/military spouse.
We are little old New Yorkers, confined to home to make sure we do not catch COVID 19 or compromise our fellow human beings.
Our story highlights the international heartache of families spread around the globe and the impact this pandemic has on families and friends in many countries.
Last year, our only grandchild, Vivi Dee, a beautiful, inspiring, young woman, with long blond hair and big blue eyes was killed.
Two weeks after her 22nd birthday she was hit by a car in Europe.
She was a pedestrian and despite all our efforts to find the truth, we still do not know why she died.
Her death was horrific and the only three men that know what happened are not telling.
The driver who killed her and the two “friends” she was with, remain silent.
No explanations, no apologies, no remorse.
This is torture to our souls, not to know why our child had to die.
Now COVID 19: this terrifying virus is wrecking the world and our world.
Vivi Dee, our granddaughter, was the only child of our only son.
Vivi Dee was joyous, intelligent, vivacious, and beautiful.
(She spoke English, German and Chinese. She studied Chinese in China.)
She was the heart and soul of any gathering and loved to laugh.
Now Vivi’s dad is a broken man.
She was his pride and joy and the center of our universe.
Everyday, he and we cry for our lost child.
    She is gone forever.
Through the actions of others, wasted to eternity.
Soon, it will be one year since her tragic death and because of COVID 19, we cannot visit or comfort our only son and we cannot visit the gravesite of our beloved Vivi Dee.
How many other families in America, in the world, have loved ones overseas or far away that they cannot visit or comfort?
This is our reality made more tragic by COVID 19.
Please, sing a song for us and all families with loved ones that are far away.
