Proposal Calls For Connecticut High Schools With Native American Mascots To Forfeit Funding From Slot Machine Revenue
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Connecticut high schools with offensive Native American mascots could lose state funding under a new proposal.
A bill that's part of the state budget calls for towns to forfeit funding received from slot machine revenue. That money comes from the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes.
The proposal is expected to pass the legislature this week.
Schools would have until 2023 to change their mascots.
