East River Park Demolition Temporarily Blocked
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A court has now issued a temporary restraining order blocking demolition of the East River Park.
Work was supposed to begin Monday, but protesters blocked crews there.
The planned project would destroy the existing park to install flood walls and floodgates, but many want the waterfront green space along the East Side to be preserved.
The restraining order is in effect through next Monday.
