MTA Announces Fare Cap, Additional Changes To Encourage Ridership

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The MTA has announced new changes coming to fares as a way to encourage ridership.

Starting March 1, the transit agency will cap fares on all city subways and buses.

Riders who use the OMNY tap-and-go payment won't pay for more than 12 rides within a week. That will last at least four months during the pilot program.

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro North also have changes, including a new 20-trip ticket available on the eTix app, which will save riders 20%.
