The 52nd annual New York Film Festival concludes this weekend, after kicking off at the end of September with Gone Girl, the much-anticipated movie adaptation of the super-successful novel. Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance, starring Edward Norton and others, is the closing movie on Saturday. This is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, and anything you get tickets for is likely worth seeing. Comic Con is a massive festival for comics fans, movie fans, tv fans, costumed fans, and other fans of popular culture. It's wildly popular, super crowded, and a ton of fun. Scheduled events include Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about the stars and a screening and panel discussion with cast and crew of The Karate Kid, in honor of its 30th anniversary. Now in its fifth year, Indentità New York celebrates both American and Italian cooking. Highlights include discussions, demonstrations, and dinners, prepared and held by such all-stars as April Bloomfield, Carlo Cracco, Daniel Humm, Rosanna Marziale, Mario Batali, and Lidia Bastianich. The New Yorker Festival offers us, mere mortals we may be, the chance to get close to the stars of the magazine's pages, as well as actors, models, directors, producers, artists, writers, and others. Events at the 15th annual festival range from Lena Dunham chatting with Ariel Levy to Anthony Lane and Adam Gopnick, along with special guests, debating cats vs. dogs. Once a year, New York's architectural gems and most fascinating spots throw open their doors and welcome the public to poke around and have a look. Among the scheduled guided tours this year, the event's 12th, are behind-the-scenes glimpses into the Apollo Theater, Fort Wadsworth's Battery Weed, the Brooklyn Army Terminal, and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
