New York City may not look like a place that caters to microbreweries, but a few have found their homes here. This colonial style pumpkin ale is a fall favorite. In addition to barley malt, hundreds of pounds of Dickinson pumpkins and a bit of nutmeg are blended into each batch. The result is a dark orange beer that smells like pumpkins and tastes like biscuits! Bring this beer as a favor to your hostess to pair with Thanksgiving dinner -- you and she will both love how it tastes with all that delicious turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.

Roggenfest is an autumn beer that combines two German styles: Roggenbier and Märzenbier (also known as Oktoberfest). This is a full-flavored beer that combines the Vienna and Munich styles of beer making through malted rye and chocolate rye. Bavarian hops balance it out for a slightly bitter taste but smooth finish. Head to your local celebration of the German Oktoberfest and enjoy a Roggenfest beer with your bratwurst or jager schnitzel!

Kellerfest
KelSo Beer Co
529 Waverly Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11238

Also jumping on the German Oktoberfest bandwagon is the KelSo Beer Co., which produces the Kellerfest in early fall. A caramel and toasted malt, this light beer will be a great addition to your autumnal celebrations. The Kellerfest has a deep malt backbone with a smooth, easy finish, making it a great beer to share with friends. Try it with some pretzels or potato pancakes, German-style.

You can't get any more seasonal in taste than the Bronx Brewery's Autumn Pale Ale. Made from the fresh juice of New York apples, this is a light, easy beer and an autumn favorite. Northern Brewer hops from the West Coast are added to the mix of apple juice giving it both a fruity and a woody taste. One of four seasonal ales, this is one of the best that the brewery offers.

Heavy Boots Of Lead
SingleCut Beersmiths
19-33 37th St.
Astoria, NY 11105

This monster of a beer sounds like the perfect way to ring in Halloween. An imperial stout, Heavy Boots of Lead has been fermenting in the brewery for months now and is finally ready for release. Head to one of the few Queen's taprooms today to find this beer on tap. SingleCut's biggest beer to-date, it combines chocolate, roast, vanilla and coffee. Probably best to not drink too many though, since this beer's ABV is a whopping 11 percent -- a sure way to stumble home if not drank in moderation.
