Tonight in New York City: Chill out with some refreshing cool dinner options, check out a literary cabaret, or test out your hilarious story at open mic night at UCBeast. By Carly Petrone.
The Literary Cabaret: Falling For Perfection
You’ve never seen a cabaret quite like this. Head over to City Winery for tonight’s cabaret, “Falling For Perfection.” The lineup includes some of the most brilliant minds from the literary and artistic worlds. Barnard College President Debora Spar will start things off along with novelist Emma Straub, followed by The Daily Show’s head writer Elliott Kalan. But that’s not all. Poet Jeffrey McDaniel, satirical songwriter Christopher Mason, playwright Adam Rapp, and legendary cartoon editor of The New Yorker Bob Mankoff will also be taking the stage. Think you can handle it? Event begins at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $25-$45.
The Big Chill
Now that summer has officially started you’re probably feeling the heat. Cool off during Edible Brooklyn’s The Big Chill at the Brooklyn Brewery. Everything is oven-less and stove-less so there’s no need to sweat. Theo Peck of Peck’s will be cooking up quite the menu. It includes cold borscht shots with pickled beets, green cabbage, and horseradish; chicken liver terrine with ver jus gelee and tart pickles; open face gravlax with sauce griviche on Russian black bread; oil poached leeks with mustard vinaigrette; tomato and wax bean salad; and ice cream sandwiches. Wash it down with some Brooklyn Brewery beer. Tickets are $40 and event goes from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Happy Hour Story Hour – Storytelling Open Mic
Got a great story to tell? Head over to the UCB Theater in the East Village for Happy Hour Story Hour. Julia Wiedeman hosts the open mic series every Monday at 6:30 p.m. All you have to do is throw your name into the hat for the chance to tell a story or to win a drink. Either way, it’s a fun way to spend a Monday evening. Admission is free.
Night Train with Guest Host Seaton Smith
The hilarious Seaton Smith takes over for Wyatt Cenac tonight as host of Night Train at Littlefield. This weekly comedy showcase brings out some of the best local stand ups to Brooklyn so get ready to laugh away your Monday blues. You won’t want to miss tonight’s line up: Billy Wayne Davis, Cameron Esposito, Drew Michael, Ryan Reiss, Kevin Iso, and Shonali Bhowmik. Tickets are $8 and show starts at 8 p.m.
Becca Taubel has no idea what she’s doing. Thankfully, neither do most of us. Come watch her show, Left Field, and find out why being slightly off can be wonderful. She’ll give the audience a glimpse into what it’s like to always be slightly off from the norm. Hey, it makes for great stage material, right? Come see this hilarious show tonight starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 online, $12 at the door.
