A conservancy group is in need of volunteers to help plant marsh grass at Jamaica Bay. The wetland has lost protective marshland in recent years and took a major hit when Superstorm Sandy's storm surge pushed 8 to 10 feet of ocean water into the bay. The restoration is important not only for the habitat there, but also to protect communities from flooding.
