Cops Arrest 16-Year-Old In '5' Subway Shooting
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Police said Monday they have found the teenaged killer who slipped away from the Subway station murder scene on Sunday, but the suspect did not escape the long arm of the law.
Escorted out of the 47th Precinct stationhouse Monday night was 16-year-old Robert Denis, charged as an adult with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a firearm.
Police said he shot 19-year-old Rayquon Story on the northbound 5 train Sunday morning. Rayquon's body was removed from the Dyre Avenue elevated station.
There was a glowing and growing memorial outside the building where Rayquon lived. While the break in the case brought relief for subway riders, there can be no relief right now for Rayquon's devastated family.
"Hurt, anger, mad, pain were going through it," cousin Tanyata Brown said. "Where is the justice at?"
Wounded were three of Story's friends, ages 18, 20 and 22. The four were heading home from a picnic and a party.
Police sources told CBS 2 HD the bloodshed may have been payback for a fight at that party. And witnesses said Rayquon was trying to be a peacemaker when he was murdered.
"He was not in a gang," Brown said. "He was just trying to be a peacemaker. These kids need to stop killing each other 'cause it makes no sense."
