Charges Upgraded in Beating Death of Summit Immigrant
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities upgraded charges Tuesday against three New Jersey teenagers in the beating death of an immigrant.
Authorities say Abelino Mazaniego was attacked while sitting on a bench in upscale Summit on the night of July 17. Officials say the attack was videotaped by another youth.
Prosecutors say the 47-year-old sustained severe head trauma and died July 20.
Nineteen-year-old Nigel Dumas of Morristown, 18-year-old Khayri Williams-Clark, and an unnamed 17-year-old, both of Summit, now face murder charges.
A nurse at Overlook Hospital in Summit was charged Monday with stealing several hundred dollars from Mazaniego when he was brought to the hospital emergency room.
