Centereach Man Accused Of Beating Bloodhound Puppy To Death

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Centereach has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after officials say he brutally beat a 7-month-old bloodhound to death.

Edward Semke, 50, was arrested Monday after he told Suffolk County SPCA detectives that he hit and kicked the dog after it ran out of the back gate of his home on Washington Avenue, the SPCA said.

The dog, named Jack, died a short time after the alleged beating. Officials say Semke dug a hole in his bakyard and buried the dog after it died.

Semke gave permission to investigators to dig up the dog’s body and it was taken to a local veterinarian to have a necropsy performed, the SPCA said.

The examination revealed that a broken neck caused the puppy to slowly suffocate to death.

“This is a horrific act of animal cruelty,” Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, told 1010 WINS. “The dog suffered a brutal death.”

There should be a special place in hell for people who abuse animals and children, both of whom have no voice and because they are helpless, suffer more horrific acts of cruetly. This ignorant, poor excuse for a human being should go to jail for a long time. How about someone kick him in the neck and leave him to die in the heat. and then toss him in a hole in the backyard. How fitting.

Very funny Dave S. Maybe someone should beat you to death and bury you in their backyard!

And since when does it mean you’re a geek if you care about animals? Moron!

  • Dave S

Bad dog! Bad Dog . Uh , you gonna eat that?

  • Jake

Very often animal cruelty is a precursor to domestic abuse, and other antisocial behavior. I doubt this is the first time this guy did something like this.

  • mary

he should do jail time and at least 1,000 hours of community service cleaning up doggie do do. I also volunter to put him on a leash with a choke collar have him wear a sign with a pic of the dead pup and a description of what he did.and walk him through the streets of his home town

the authorities need to really check this guy out if he would do this to an animal imagine what he would or has done to the humans around him

Michael – at least a human would have a chance to fight back…an animal is defenseless against a human…especially a puppy…

  • Michael

Why do we see such an outcry for animals but less so for humans?

    • mary

??????there is an outcry for humans, this just happens to be an issue about a pup, duh……..

  • Morbius

Give him the punishment he gave the unfortunate animal – no less – Make it public!!!

  • jack nisen

You are the same liberal geeks who are against the death penalty. Now you understand why we need to bring back the hangman!

    • Morbius

not me brother – eye for an eye!! I’m tired of all the excuses for criminals – and the ACLU makes it happen

  • Melinda

give me just 5 minutes alone with this b%$#tard – The dog was trying to find a good home, thats why he ran out through the back gate. Lets help the local shelters out – pay $5 each to throw a rock in a public square at this vermon – then donate the money to the shelter. I’m in, I’ll even give you $20 ! and aim straight for his head !
