Nyack Man To Feds: I'm Not Dead

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Karl Hess looks pretty good, for a dead guy.

The 78-year-old West Nyack man says he's very much alive despite the fact that the federal government disagrees.

Hess said he was shocked when he got a call from his doctor last Friday and was told that the government declared him dead on July 5 meaning that he was no longer eligible to receive MediCare or Social Security.

"I said how could I possibly be dead if I went to the doctor's office on the 27th?" Hess told 1010 WINS.

Hess says he has no idea how the mix-up occurred and apparently neither does the Social Security Administration. However, it is believed the entire situation stems back to a clerical issue.

After a day of phone calls and personal appearances Hess was brought back to life.

"I showed them my driver's license and they said 'I guess you're still alive,'" Hess said.
