Revis Contract Talk Star Of Hard Knocks Debut

(Daily News) CORTLAND -- Somewhere between all the profanities on the first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks tonight, we received more information on the Darrelle Revis holdout.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum painted a bleak picture while being filmed on his ride back from the Roscoe Diner in Roscoe, N.Y., after a three-hour meeting with Revis' agents last Friday.

"They haven't said one thing that I agree with," Tannenbaum said to director of football administration Ari Nissim in the car. "We're so freakin' far apart that I feel like a failure right now. Six months later, we haven't moved the needle. I just don't get it. I tried everything…

"I just wish I had another card to play here," Tannenbaum added. "A one-year deal. A four-year deal. A 10-year deal. In good conscience, we can move on. Maybe we'll go trade for a corner. In good conscience, why don't we move on and we'll try again next year."

Tannenbaum knew he was being filmed, so this could be a case of posturing to force Revis' hand. Or he could be dead serious.

Either way, Rex Ryan flashed his bravado during a lunch with Woody Johnson and Tannenbaum.

"We will not be bullied by anybody," Ryan said. "Nobody. Nope. Not in our DNA."

The cameras also caught Tannenbaum talking to Revis' agent Neil Schwartz (presumably) on the phone in the general manager's office.

Interestingly enough, Tannenbaum said this to Schwartz: "What we said here consistently between Woody, Rex is that, look, the object of the exercise is to get Darrelle signed. So, anything we put in the newspaper that is not going to help that goal, we're not going to say."

Johnson, of course, went on to say publicly that he didn't believe Revis would play for the team this season.

After the phone call, Tannenbaum told Woody Johnson, who was also in the office, that it was the "most non negative conversation I think I've ever had with him."

OTHER NOTES FROM EPISODE ONE
Ryan was filmed walking around the dorms, knocking on the doors and saying, "Revis? Revis, where are you? C'mon, Revis. Come on home." The coach did, in fact, mention Revis' name in the first team meeting. His number one goal was to lead the league in wins.

After Santonio Holmes made a diving TD catch during practice, Tannenbaum quipped: "Man, who traded for him? A smart son of a bitch that was."

It took less than five minutes to show Ryan signing his contract extension in Tannenbaum's presence.

Tannenbaum can't field punts. He fell on his butt trying to do so.

The producers chronicled the short Jets careers of Aaron Kia and Kevin Basped, who were both cut by the end of the episode.

You will get a $5 fine for jogging shirtless.

Defensive assistant Jeff Weeks
uses "deep tanning dry oil" (aka -- tanning spray). Inexcusable.

Ryan's unofficial profanity count: 16.5 million.
