Yankees Discount Ticket Booth Opens In Times Square

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Looking for the hottest tickets in town for a low price? Then look no further.

On Monday, Modell’s Sporting Goods on West 42nd Street in Times Square opened a TKTS-type ticket booth that will offer same-day Yankee tickets for up to half off.

“I’m pretty sure if you come from out of town or somewhere else you don’t know where to go buy tickets,” Yankees legend Tino Martinez said. “To have this place here do that for the fans is a great thing.”

The “Mo Saver” tickets will go on sale at 8 a.m. for home day games and at noon for night games with the limit of four per person.

However, fans may not have much to choose from. The Yankees have sold more than 3.7 million tickets this season and lead the American League in home attendance over the last seven seasons.

Yankees could have done what JetBlue, Dell and many crafty businesses have done to sell distressed inventory: use social media. The Twitter and Facebook sites that offer incredible bargains to consumers attract hundreds of thousands of fans and make it convenient for people to easily access deals. The Yankees are limiting their deals to those physically in Times Square — not those in the outer boroughs and surrounding communities. Even the not-for-profit organization that stages free Shakespeare in Central Park set up a virtual ticketing web site for those who wanted to enter the daily ticket lottery without standing in line at 6 a.m.
