Brooklyn Man Drowns In Catskills Lake
BETHEL, N.Y. (AP) -- Police said a 30-year-old camp counselor from Brooklyn drowned while swimming in a Catskills lake.
The body of Betzalel Levin was recovered from White Lake in Bethel by divers Thursday evening, about three hours after he disappeared under the water.
Levin, a camp counselor in a children's program run by A Woman's League, had jumped off a pontoon boat to take a swim. A witness said she saw Levin struggle in the water shortly after he dove in and called 911.
Police say Levin was likely weighed down by some of the clothes he was still wearing. They have determined that drugs, alcohol and foul play were not factors in the accident.
