Stronger Waves Hit Jersey Shore

MARGATE, N.J. (CBS 2) -- "Hurricane Danielle" may be thousands of miles away, but the Jersey Shore was already feeling the effects of the powerful storm.

Swells were said to be three to five feet higher than normal over the weekend.

The wilder waves had some swimmers on edge. "When the waves went over us, went over me, you actually had to hold on for the rip tide not to take you out," said Steve Branch of Margate.

"It's so rough you really can't enjoy it," another resident said.

Lifeguards were on high alert but some beaches were working with a reduced staff, since many summer workers were already headed back to school.
