Westchester County Airport Briefly Evacuated

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say the terminal at Westchester County Airport was evacuated for 35 minutes when luggage screeners became suspicious about a passenger's baggage.

Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O'Leary says about 200 people were ushered from the terminal at about 10:15 a.m.

O'Leary said baggage screeners saw something in a suitcase that made them uncomfortable. The county bomb squad was called in and the terminal evacuated, but O'Leary said nothing dangerous was found.

O'Leary said planes were allowed to land and depart during the Monday morning evacuation. However, planes were not permitted to approach the airport's single passenger terminal, about 25 miles from Manhattan.
