ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher has gotten an encouraging report after an MRI on his injured left knee.

Swisher underwent a test Tuesday that showed inflammation, but no structural problems. He received a cortisone shot and will likely be out of the starting lineup until this weekend.

“I can’t give you a timeline of when they said I’ll be back, but I’m going to be back as soon as I can,” Swisher said. “It’s frustrating because you’re going through some big games right now and you want to be part of that, but again you want to be healthy as well.”

Swisher has a recurring problem with a bone bruise on the knee caused by a foul ball.

“We’ll keep evaluating it,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Also, first baseman Mark Teixeira has been playing since Aug. 31 with a broken little toe on his right foot. He was hurt when a pitch hit the foot.

“Unfortunately it doesn’t feel good all day,” Teixeira said. “It’s just a pain. It hurts.”

Teixeira plans to play through the pain of the injury, which will require time during the offseason to heal.

Outfielder Brett Gardner was out of the lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays because of a sore right wrist.

Gardner got a cortisone shot Monday and is available to play defense and pinch run. He could start again within the next few days.

“It’s a lot better,” Gardner said.
