Police: Conn. Girl's Abduction A Hoax

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Police in Connecticut say a 13-year-old New Haven girl has admitted that she made up a story about being kidnapped from her home and assaulted by a stranger.

New Haven police told the New Haven Register on Wednesday that the girl acknowledged to investigators that the incident didn't happen, after questions arose about her account.

The girl's mother reported her missing Monday, which led to a large-scale search by city police and FBI agents. Authorities say it appeared she may have been sexually assaulted when she was found wounded and partially clothed in a wooded area of Chamberlain Street about three hours later.

The teen was released from a hospital Wednesday.

Police declined to release other information.
