N.Y. Launches Statewide Effort To Support Local Business

LARCHMONT, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- There's a new statewide effort underway in New York to support "main street" businesses.

Several Westchester mayors gathered in Larchmont Wednesday to help roll out the new "$25 on the 25th" initiative.

Shoppers are being encouraged to spend $25 at stores in their communities this Saturday, Sept. 25.

It's all aimed at boosting local businesses during these tough economic times.

"We have to get out there and help support these businesses," said Larchmont Mayor, Joshua Mandell. "And make a statement that preserving these businesses and not letting them go dark over the next decade or two. It's something that's really important to us.

The campaign is a joint project of the New York State Conference of Mayors and the New York Press Association.
