Wife Charged In Accident That Killed Husband

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities in southern New Jersey say a 73-year-old man who was struck by a car driven by his wife has died from his injuries.

Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says John McNulty of Little Egg Harbor died Friday afternoon, several hours after he was struck while walking to a nearby bus stop.

Witnesses said McNulty's 54-year-old wife, Karen, drove the car near her husband before passing him. They said she then made a U-turn and hit him with the vehicle.

Karen McNulty was arrested at the scene and initially charged with aggravated assault. But that was upgraded Saturday to aggravated manslaughter, and she was jailed on $500,000 bail.

It was not known if McNulty had retained a lawyer.
