No Injuries Reported At Junkyard Fire In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBS 2) — Smoke from a huge fire in New Jersey made its way across the Hudson Sunday.

The three-alarm fire broke out around 11 p.m. Saturday in a Jersey City junkyard. The Jersey City Fire Department said the fire involved no buildings and that they were responding with cranes and fire boats.

Wind was not of concern.

Residents ten miles away in Brooklyn reported seeing the smoke.

Jersey City police said no one was hurt.

I bet a lot of firefighters in Jersey City will be on disability after this one. I know one particular firefighter who if he stubs his toe goes on disability for months. They all have AFLAC – they need to be investigated – it is a sham. Jersey City property taxes are outrageous – and all these guys do is cook all day and cheat on their wives. I used to live in Jersey City – at one particular bar all the married firefighters would hook up constantly with the waitresses and bartenders.

Was this fire accidental or intentional?

At 2:30 the smoke was so bad it woke me up on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens. People were out in the street looking for the cause. I climbed to the roof to see and all I saw was our local fire trucks driving around and trying to find the blaze. Acrid smoke is still making my eyes burn this morning.

We here in Marine Park smelled the smoke starting near midnight. The smell was noxious and thought there was a huge fire close-by.

My aprtment windows were open and my apartment in downtown brooklyn was filled with smoke that awoke us at 3 am. So bad my eyes were tearing and throat burning. Hope the wind helped clear it so its better outside now.

I left work in Jericho this morning and thought that there had been a car fire somewhere nearby. Having been a part of an operation to put out a fire at a place similar to this one, it’s certainly the likely cause of the stench.

The noxious smell seeped into my house in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn at 2AM. NYC 911 said they were investigating – glad to finally know the culprit.
