Is Mayor Bloomberg Reaching For Higher Office?

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been traveling around the country this election season endorsing candidates and backing issues, and there are more trips in prospect.

LISTEN: WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb reports

“He has obviously never stopped thinking about the presidency,” political analyst and St. Francis College scholar-in-residence Fred Siegel told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb. “His assumption is, I’m just intuiting this, his assumption is if Obama is enormously unpopular and the Republicans nominate someone who is unacceptable to half the country, say someone like Sarah Palin, then there’s room for him.”

Siegel says you don’t have people like Howard Wolfson and Doug Schoen on your staff unless you are thinking about a national campaign.

I think we should run Charlie Rangel.
A crook to the nth power.
He still won in his district and does not even care about the evils he committed.
I am sure you love him

Bloomberg is hardly a centrist. Look at his record, not his sound bites. He is a fiscal conservative, all the way. Social policy doesn’t matter, b/c it doesn’t create jobs. And he certainly doesn’t support free expression if you look at eh 2004 GOP convention or his opposition to the Critical Mass Bike Rides. The city has now paid out a $1B to settle lawsuits against the city during his tenure and his record shows no action for the environment, just a failed effort to further tax drivers despite 70% of the greenhouse gases coming from real-estate. He only supports education reform b/c his Wall St friends are funding charter schools. If you carefully look at his record, you will see the real Bloomberg – a greedy, money & power hungry egomaniac looking only to expand his empire. PS – NYC’s annual budget has grown by $20B during his tenure. Who’s paying for that? Not the wealthy!

  3. Jimmyjohn says:

He is not running for higher office. He is trying to create a viable third party of moderates from both sides of the aisle.

    1. Sean says:

Exactly right! And considering that most voters fall into that space in the middle, I think he’s doing a great thing. The problem is that most of us moderates can’t get heard because there’s no money in the middle. That’s why elections have become a joke – you’re either far-left or far-right. No room for moderates anymore. It’s a shame.

BLOOMBAG has no interest in being president, which is precisely WHY the billionaire media continues to HAMMER THIS STORY like a bad pop song, to burn it into everyone’s brains.

They know our Lil’ Emperor has massive ego problems and are trying to dupe the little sucker into BUYING Washington DC so they can then pull his ignorant puppet strings.

It’s also why Team Bloomberg are trying so hard to PUSH Tax HIke Mike into running. Mike buys the White House, while Skyler, Sheeky, Wolfson, and the other hangerson get to run the world!

These criminals MUST go to jail like their nazi heroes.

      1. jesus cristos says:

Your implication to Nazism is despicable.
You are probably a camel humper from Iran.
Remember this, my friend, if it were not for Dr. Jonas Salk(a Jew) and Jesus
Christ(a Jew), you would either never have been born or have no one to pray too.
The facts speak for themselves. Read them and weep, or be in denial.
Look them up, If you do not agree, the you deny your own existence.

  4. Sean says:

And Nick – thanks for illustrating my point with your mindless post. It’s exactly what I’m talking about. If you want me (or anyone else) to take you seriously, learn to write and write about things that matter to people. Identify an issue, take a position, and defend it. People don’t defend their positions anymore. That’s what’s missing!

    1. Nick says:

So breaking the law and dictating what people should or should not do is NOT an issue?

Oh wait, that’s not an issue for you fascists. Just standard operating procedures.

Now I’m waiting for you to censor the posts – FOR THE PEOPLE! of course. IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM! Censor anyone who disagrees with you.

    2. cxb says:

Sean is a Bloomberg TROLL and is likely Howard Wolfson, doing more damage control.

      Hi, Howard!

Bloomberg is so ‘independent” that he NEVER funds any independent candidates!

      Pretty “independent”, eh?

Care to debate in PUBLIC, Howard?

      I didn’t think so.

  5. PatG says:

The only thing Bloomberg has done for the NYC school system is lower the standards, so he looks good. He always talks about middle-class housing, but we haven’t seen any as yet in all these years. I hope he just goes back to Bloomberg News.

  6. Nick says:

Ah… the Bloomberg PR team (Sean & Tom) at work. Do try to type less from a script next time. Amateurs.

Ok. You want straight facts? Try these: What Does Bloomberg and Hitler have in common?

    1) They both unilaterally extended their terms, against the law, by citing an “emergency”.

    2) They both ban civilian legal ownership of guns. Gee I wonder why Hitler and Bloomberg hates an armed citizenry as their troops comes a knocking.

    3) They are both health nuts (Hitler is a vegetarian) and loves to dictate what other people should or should not ingest or inhale.

    4) They both have grand traffic schemes that looks politically correct but doesn’t pan out.

    5) Both their people wear monotone colored shirts like a uniform.

    1. Sean says:

Perhaps you should learn to write before you post again. Check your grammar, o bright one!

      1. Nick says:

So “grammar” is your “issues”. Thanks for proving MY point.

    2. Kris says:

OH. MY. GOD. Traffic schemes that don’t pan out??!!! Monotone shirts??!! MONOTONE SHIRTS!!! Nick, your research is amazing! Bloomberg IS just like Hitler. Um, except for the killing six million jews thing. When is Bloomy going to do that?

And how did he unilaterally extend his term again? Was that before or after the city council voted to extend the limits?

Nick, how about you just admit that you can’t put forth a cogent argument against Bloomberg without severe fearmongering and lies? And not even good ones at that.

      1. cxb says:

I can name 5,000 MORE concrete similarities tween Hitler and Bloomberg, from their genocide to their arrests of most dissidents to their psychological makeup.

EX: the Nazis BOUGHT A MEDIA COMPANY to help their rise to power. Bloomberg bought a MEDIA COMPANY to help his rise to power.

EX: both were afraid to ever debate their critics or opponents.

EX: both were “public servants” who refused to answer ANY questions by the taxpayers who were their BOSSES.

EX: both murdered specific races (hitler jews, Bloomberg muslims, or maybe you didn’t know he was behind much of the Iraq invasion and was the #1 funder of Bush/ Cheney, right? Murdering innocent Muslims is NOTHING like what Hitler did to jews!)

ALSO NOTE: the people who say they like Bloomberg got 100% of their talking points from… BLOOMBERG. (The media just reprints whatever City Hall tells them to. DUH.)

  7. tom says:

Mayor Bloomberg is a power hungry person. He bent the rules in NYC to get himself re-elected. I will be there campaigning against him!

  8. Tom says:

right on to Sean… the people who attack him for being wealthy seem to forget that he made this money himself by founding a highly innovative company. And they also seem to not appreciate the innovation that is happening in the NYC schools because of him. I’ve seen this innovation first hand–I work in one of them. Count me in as a volunteer, too!

  9. Sean says:

I am so sick of the partisan politics in this country. It’s become a disgrace. Attacks, attacks, attacks. That’s all it is. There are no serious issues being discussed anymore. It’s all finger pointing. We should be ashamed of our political leaders. If Bloomberg decides to run for higher office as an independent, I’ll be the first to sign up to volunteer for his campaign!

  10. Nick says:

Is it a surprise really, that Bloomberg’s looking to be crowned Caesar?
