N.J. Drivers Face Fines For Snow-Covered Cars

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS 2) -- New Jersey residents better keep that snow brush handy this winter.

As of Wednesday morning, police can now fine Jersey drivers who don't clean all the snow and ice  off their cars.

Previously, motorists could be ticketed only if property damage or injuries occurred as a result of failing to remove the ice and snow, but under the amended law that went into effect at midnight, you can be fined between $25 and $75 just for hitting the road in a snow-covered car.

If injuries or property damage occur, the fines will go up as high as $1,000.
