Summations Due In NJ Mayor's Corruption Trial

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Closing statements were expected Wednesday in the bribery and extortion trial of Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez and an associate.

They're accused of accepting money from a federal informant who posed as a corrupt developer seeking help with zoning approvals.

During the two-week trial, both defendants testified they met with Solomon Dwek but did nothing illegal. Dwek secretly taped the meetings and testified that he gave Guttenberg tax preparer Vincent Tabbachino $10,000 to give to Suarez as a bribe.

Suarez and Tabbachino were among more than 40 people arrested last year in a massive federal corruption sting. Nearly half have pleaded guilty. Two were convicted at trial by Dwek's testimony.
