Florida Bagel Shop, Pizzeria Spar Over NYC Water
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Everyone knows that New York City bagels get their unique taste from city tap water. Now, a Florida Bagel store has tapped into a way to get the same flavor.
South Florida is often refereed to as "the sixth borough" and folks there want authenticity -- especially when it comes to their bagels, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

So instead of importing New York City tap water -- which can be a pricey proposition -- a Delray Beach water bagel store owner came up with a water filtration system that South Florida Sun Sentinel reporter Jon Burstein said works.
"I've talked to a number of former New Yorkers who were in the store eating the bagels and they said they taste like the bagels they've had back home," Burstein told Diamond.
Now, the bagel store owner is suing a Lake Worth pizza place, claiming it was misrepresenting the technology by claiming their dough was authentic. The pizzeria said said the bagel company was illegally claiming the water filtering process was patented.
A spokesman for New York City's Department of Environmental Protection told the South Florida Sun Sentential the agency wasn't surprised people wanted to imitate NYC water because it was "of the highest quality."
