Lawyers Dispute Allegations In Rutgers Suicide

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Lawyers for two former Rutgers University freshmen accused of webcasting a classmate having sex with a man are disputing allegations against them.

Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei were charged with invasion of privacy after Ravi allegedly used a webcam on Sept. 19 to capture his roommate, Tyler Clementi, having a gay sexual encounter. Clementi jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge days later.

But Steven Altman and Rubin Sinins, who represent Ravi and Wei respectively, told The Star-Ledger of Newark that the webcam stream was only viewed on a single computer and did not show the men having sex.

Law enforcement officials wouldn’t discuss the lawyers’ claims, citing the ongoing investigation.

Ravi and Wei recently withdrew from Rutgers, and prosecutors are considering whether to charge them with a hate crime.

Bob they did know he was gay, because the roommate tweeted about his sexuality prior

I guess lawyers are only supposed to redistribute wealth from those who earn it to the “oppressed”. No one pushed Clemente off the GW Bridge. He tragically chose to kill himself. All hate crime legislation does is make some groups more protected than others. A crime should not depend upon whether the vi ctim is a member of a politically favored group. Had Clemente been an unattractive woman or some lumbering, straight white guy no one would have a word to say about this matter.

It was a foolish act, however, If I remember correctly the 2 didn’t know his visitor was another male which means they didn’t target him because he was gay. And prosecutors better be careful because there are many college kids secretly taping each other and if you throw the book at them you’ll have to handle each incident the same. Bottom line, this kid had major problems that the parents knew about and disclosed to authorities. It’s a tragedy but he probably would have hurt himself somewhere down the line.

    Amen Norman!

That is what about lawyers, dispute the facts and distort the truth, Die sit really matter what it showed? The fact is they secretly taped him with?ut his permission and distributed it so others could see.
How would they feel if the shoe was on the other foot.
