At 26-years-old and newly married, Ryan died of an undiagnosed enlarged heart. He collapsed in Central Park while competing for a spot on the 2007 U.S. men's marathon team.

"For me, it's a way to feel close to him and, and keep his memory alive," Shea told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond.

Sarah says she expects to feel more inspired than sad.

She says, "I'm hoping, when I run by that area, I'll just kinda feel his spirit around and hopefully I'll have a smile on my face because that'll be towards the end of the marathon and I'll probably want to feel like passing out."

The Army veteran is also dedicating her race to the Wounded Warriors project.
