Agent: Jeter’s Value Can’t Be ‘Overstated’

NEW YORK (WFAN) — Derek Jeter’s agent has fired back at Hal Steinbrenner, just one day after the Yankees’ co-owner discussed the shortstop’s contract situation with Mike Francesa.

“He’s one of the greatest Yankees in history; no doubt about it,” Steinbrenner told WFAN’s Francesa Tuesday. “But at the same time, I’m running a business. I have responsibilities.”

“I want to get a deal done that he’s happy with, but also that I’m happy with.”

Casey Close, Jeter’s agent, responded through AOL’s Fanhouse.

“Clearly, baseball is a business, and Derek’s impact on the sport’s most valuable franchise cannot be overstated. Moreover, no athlete embodies the spirit of a champion more than Derek Jeter,” Close said.

Jeter made $21 million in 2010, the final season of a 10-year, $189 million pact.

Jeter is Mr. Clutch always was always will be. If the Steinbrenner’s gave A Rod a lucrative contract 1/4 of a billion dollars why are they suddenly concerned about business decisions? Whatever the Steinbrenners don’t pay Jeter they will keep in their own pockets. Jeter should be paid at least 25m per year for as long as he wants to play.

when Jeter hits like A-Rod and played short stop as well as A-Rod which he never has he still is not worth a Billion dollars

“If A Rod is worth $230 million Jeter is worth half a billion.”

A-Rod is going to hit 800 HR’s and he carried the Yankees on his back to the World Series last year.

Alex Rodriguez is easily one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His numbers speak for themselves.
