Poll: Voters Like Christie As Gov, Not President

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A new poll finds just over half of New Jersey voters approve of the job Gov. Chris Christie is doing, but only a quarter of those polled believe the Republican would make a good president.

The Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday finds Christie's job approval rating at 51 percent, with 38 percent disapproving. But only 24 percent think he'd be good in the White House, compared to 61 percent who don't think so.

Most voters polled do not believe Christie will seek the presidency in 2012.

The governor did outscore President Obama in the poll. Only 46 percent approve of the president's job performance; 50 percent disapprove.

The telephone poll of 1,362 New Jersey voters was conducted Nov. 3-8 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
