Conn. Man Pleads Guilty In NYC Class-Trip Sex Case

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Connecticut father accused of groping preteen girls while chaperoning his son's school trip has pleaded guilty to attempted sexual abuse.

Tomas Manzano's plea deal calls for the six months in jail he's all but served since his June 2 arrest, plus 10 years' probation. He was released after pleading guilty on Monday. He's due back in court December 20.

Prosecutors say the 35-year-old swigged what smelled like alcohol and stroked and touched a series of girls on the trip from Stamford, Conn., to New York. Prosecutors say he ignored teachers who told him to stop and became so combative it took eight or more police officers to arrest him.

Defense lawyer Paul Petrus says Manzano is sorry about the episode and has been in alcohol counseling.
