Trial For NY Man Run Over In Domestic Dispute

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) -- A man suspected of attacking his former wife with a knife and then getting dragged underneath her car as she tried to flee is headed to trial in upstate New York on an attempted murder charge.

A judge this week ordered a Jan. 10 trial date for 58-year-old John Gilbert, who is accused of slashing Jennifer Gilbert's throat when she went to his home in Geneva in September 2009 to pick up her three children.

As she attempted to drive away, police say Gilbert clung to the car, then fell underneath it and was dragged for 30 to 40 feet. He suffered serious injuries, spending several weeks in a hospital's intensive-care unit, and has since moved to Long Island.

His former wife was also treated at a hospital but was discharged the same day.
