City Workers Charged In $8M Food Stamp Scam

NEW YORK (AP) -- Three former or current New York City employees responsible for administering the federal food stamp program -- and a fourth person -- have been charged with scamming the program of $8 million.

Prosecutors say the defendants used false names, addresses and Social Security numbers to issue fake food stamp cards and related benefits.

Three of the defendants worked for the city's Human Resources Administration.

The city's Department of Investigation said the investigation into the defendants' activities began after it received complaints from a city worker.
