TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey will soon have a new governor on a temporary basis.

State Senate President Steve Sweeney will become acting governor on Sunday, when Gov. Chris Christie and his family head to Florida for a Disney World vacation.

The Democrat will remain in the post until the Republican governor returns on Thursday. He vowed not to “create any mischief” while in power.

Sweeney gets the job because Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will also be out of town this coming week, and the senate president is next in the line of succession.

Sweeney previously served as acting governor in January, while former Gov. Jon Corzine was on vacation and just days before Christie was sworn in.

“He vowed not to “create any mischief” while in power.”

It’s a babysitting job. Just make sure no one burns the place down.

Hopefully Christie will just stay in Florida and give the Democrats a chance to raise taxes
