Thousands Attend Churches To Celebrate On Christmas

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – Thousands of worshippers packed area churches on Saturday to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas.

Some people attended service at the Mother Church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York.

For some, going to that cathedral on Christmas day is a continuation of a family tradition.

"It's such a powerful place that it really sets up a tradition, especially with our three-year-old son," Jennifer Mujat-Kearns said.

Meanwhile, hundreds attended St. Patrick's Cathedral, where Archbishop Timothy Dolan held several Christmas day services, including midnight mass attended by several dignitaries, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov.-Elect Andrew Cuomo and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.
