Newark Shooting Claims Life Of Irvington Man, 29

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a 29-year-old Irvington man has died from injuries suffered in a shooting in Newark.

Spokeswoman Katherine Carter of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says Lawrence T. Finney was shot at around 6 p.m. Sunday on Schley Street. She says he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at University Hospital.

No arrests have been made. Authorities have not identified any suspects.

Historically, Newark is one of New Jersey’s deadliest cities. The city had 85 homicides last year and 80 in 2009.
