Housing Discrimination Alleged In Northern Suburbs

WHITE PLAINS, NY (WCBS 880) – They had the same finances and went to the same realtors, but Westchester Residential Opportunities’ (WRO) Marlene Zarfes says the darker the skin, the more they were discriminated against when it came to renting.

WCBS 880’s Catherine Cioffi reports from White Plains.

The findings – a 17.5% rate of discrimination in Westchester County.

“Sometimes, the protected tester was not even shown any units,” Zarfes told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi.

WRO also tested Rockland and Putnam counties. Rockland had a 34.6% rate of discrimination and Putnam had a 14.3% rate of discrimination.

“Choice of housing is one of the most crucial and influential decisions in life,” says Zarfes.

You can’t be serious. Well just remember there are all kinds of discrimination / selective behavior. I wonder if you will keep the same rediculous opinion when someone is selective with you and it’s not to your advantage.

They should be looking for places to live on streets such as MLK Drive and Rosa Parks Blvd.

YOU CAN’T BE THAT STUPID!!!!! Do you live on Ignorant Drive, Bigot Way, or maybe you reside on Fry in Hell Lane. I hope the darkest skinned person moves right next door to you on both sides.

Suprised?! Not. I work in the suburbs and there’s as many narrow minded porch snobs out here as in some small southern town. Ironically, most of these less enlightened will most likely be forced to leave these fine homes due to foreclosure and have to rub shoulders with those whom they tried to avoid. Yeah, karma is truely a b!tch.

  • No Surprise There

Is anybody really surprised by this? Many bigots lives there and on L.I.

This is NOT helping my hair to relax, I can tell you that right now!
