Trump Organization Vice President Ron Lieberman said Thursday that the mega-developer has reached an agreement with the union that represents the Tavern’s former employees.

Trump will now have to reach a deal with the city, which owns the restaurant.

Tavern on the Green closed a year ago after 75 years. It was once one of the world’s top-grossing restaurants.

The city granted Central Park Boathouse operator Dean Poll the right to reopen the restaurant. But Poll was unable to cut a deal with the Hotel and Motel Trades Council.

How about Danny Meyer who owns and runs Shake Shack?

  • Get going Donald!

Why not actually start the Restaurant he contracted to build at Jones Beach first. Come on Donald, get to work and stick it to the Garden City folks who want to ‘protect’ a Beach they don’t go to.

Get a chef from New Orleans have some of that type food on the menu– offer something different. the food and the location will make it a hit.

I happen to be one of those people who like Donald. I remember his father’s development in Brooklyn, over 60 years ago called the Trump apartments. It included a strip shopping center with a supermarket, pharmacy and all. Quite a success. Donald learned from the best. Of cours he, like many busnissmen of his stature, hit a few bumps but he’s still standing. If anyone can resurect Ton the G it’s him. I wish him well. !

I hope Trump re-opens it. Whether it’s high priced, union run or not, to have it open is better than not. Unions exist b/c of management and all businesses exist to make money. As long as Donald has an agreement, good for him. It’s better than a t-shirt shop (Thanks Bloomberg) and will bring in considerable money to the city.

With all that money Trump should build a Tavern on the MOON. He’s going to great lengths to hide his male pattern baldness…it’s so obvious that he’s going bald.

    • A. Nonny Moose

But if he opened it on the moon, the food might be great, but it would have no atmosphere at all :)

  • Peter is an idiot

Yea, those workers, who created every single penny that born-rich real estate swindlers like Trump have are way out of line to try to get a big enough percentage of it to cover the ridiculously high cost of living in this city.

    Get real.

I would like Mr.Trump to reopen Tavern on the Green because I hope I’ll get the job.

Re-open Tavern On The Green with better food ! I always loved how beautiful that place was .Maybe the Donald can do it !

  • Mark Walker

If this deal comes through, it may be one of the redeeming marks on Trump’s resume. Like him or not, A pricey Tavern On The Green is better than NO Tavern On The Green. It was truly a sad day when this place closed.

Trump is into making money. The price of a meal will be high. His morgage loan company did not work out because no one trust him. He is in to make money money money

    • Peter Griffin

Of course he is in it to make money. Why else do people invest in businesses? I would never cut a deal with criminals (union) though. Those workers are unemployed because of the union–a lot of good it did them. They deserve to remain unemployed.

what I’m saying is, you will not get a fair price.never. no sure how the food would be?
