LI Man Being Arraigned Gets Arrested For Assault
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island man who was being arraigned is now facing more charges -- after police had to restrain him at his arraignment.
Police said the man was being arraigned Saturday just before noon on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct when he became agitated and attempted to get to the judge.
Authorities said he knocked over a police officer and a court reporter and damaged a stenography machine before being subdued.
He now faces charges of assault, criminal mischief and criminal contempt of court.
