Brodeur Leaves Game With Bruised Right Leg

MONTREAL (AP) — New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur left Sunday's game against Montreal in the first period because of a bruise to his right leg.

The NHL's career leader in wins, shutouts and games played by a goalie went to the Devils' bench flexing his leg during a stoppage with 5:45 left in the period. He finished the period but did not come out for the second, and the team said he sustained a bruise.

Johan Hedberg started the second period with New Jersey leading 2-0, after first-period goals by Dainius Zubrus and Ilya Kovalchuk.

Travis Zajak made it a three-goal lead early in the second before P.K. Subban scored for Montreal at 6:32, ending the Devils' bid for a combined shutout effort.
