Report: Knicks’ Dolan Joins Carmelo Talks; LA Nixes Deal

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — The Knicks are advancing on a three-team trade that could land Carmelo Anthony in New York.

According to the Daily News, Knicks owner James Dolan “is taking a more active role” in the pursuit of Anthony and “has had direct negotiations” with the Denver Nuggets.

“Dolan’s decision to become more involved in the Anthony trade talks is a sign that the Knicks are closing in on a deal for the All-Star forward,” reported the Daily News.

Meanwhile, Frank Isola reported on Tuesday that Jim Buss rejected a deal that would send Carmelo to the Los Angeles Lakers for Andrew Bynum, “to the dismay” of Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson.

“If I’m the Lakers I make the deal because Kobe is getting up there in age. If I’m Denver I don’t cause Bynum has the legs of a 40 year old,” Isola tweeted.

Also involved in the Knicks’ reported three-team negotiations are the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Post reported on Monday that the Knicks have discussed adding Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, rookie Andy Rautins, and the expiring contracts of Kelenna Azubuike and Eddy Curry to the trade mix.

Minnesota would send a first-round draft pick and Corey Brewer to the Nuggets, while adding Randolph and Curry from New York.

Despite being surrounded by a whirlwind of trade rumors, Anthony dropped 50 points against the Houston Rockets on Monday night.

Anthony has had an inconsistent season with trade talk hovering over him ever since he declined to sign a three-year, $65 million extension in June. Two megadeals with the New Jersey Nets have fallen apart, but many expect he’ll still be moved by the Feb. 24 trade deadline so the Nuggets don’t risk losing him to free agency next summer for nothing.

Asked if he could appreciate how tough it would be for a franchise to trade a guy who just dropped 50 points on a team, Anthony demurred.

“I don’t really want to talk about that, man,” he retorted. “I’m not talking about no Nuggets management right now.”

Will the Knicks land ‘Melo, or will the talks fall apart? Sound off in the comments below…

The feeling amoung many knick fans is that the reason the trade for carmelo has staled, is because the knicks don’t want to give up gallo. If this is the case and we blow it, this would be the worse thing to happen to knick fans ever. Gallo is who denver wants and Dolan needs to pull the trigger before it’s too late. We wont be getting melo if we wait until next year.

If this is the case and we don’t get carmelo it would be the worse thing that ever happend to knick fans ever. to be this close to having two star players , and blow it would be a shame and a discrace. I think gallo is who denver wants and we need to pull the trigger before it’s too late. Melo will not be comming to the knicks if we wait until next year.

  3. shirley says:

keep Dear DOLAN AND ISIAH IF YOU WANT CARMELO .
    LET WALSE HANDLE IT.

  4. Trey Mitchell says:

Personally, i think that New York will land Melo because it just makes the most sense if you are the Denver Nuggets. I live in Denver and i know we are going to lose Melo to the Knicks. I want to see Denver get Danilo Gallanari from the knicks and another Big man who can score.

  5. Darius says:

Lets get the deal done for Carmelo

  6. Jimmy says:

Maybe they should call in Isiah as an adviser too.

  7. Ralph Anthony Rags Morales says:

Sooooo…..Minnesota gets: Randolph and Rautins and expiring contracts for the first rounder, and they cough up Brewer and the first rounder in a package that includes Chandler? Is that the deal?

Nuggets: Chandler, Brewer, 1st round pick.
Timberwolves: Rautins, Randolph, 2 expiring contracts
    Knicks: Anthony

If that’s the case, maybe Dolan is involved for cash consideration for Minnesota.

  8. Hal Mann says:

So an incompetant boob like Dolan is involved? The Dolans wouldn’t know the first thing about competing without a monopoly advantage.

  9. MIKE DAYEM says:

That being said If the Knicks pull this deal off with what is mentioned above it will truly be the biggest robbery of this century!

      1. Don says:

sorry that honor belongs to Chicago for trading us Eddie Curry! Now there is a player who should have quit and given back the guaranteed money he has been getting for playing the bench.

  10. Isiah_Blows says:

Dolan touching this is the Kiss of death, He might get Melo but he will give Denver whoever they want.
