Westchester Communities Target Street Snow Dumpers

MAMARONECK, NY (WCBS 880) - Mind your snow, or else!

Podcast

WCBS 880's Sean Adams reports from Westchester County

If you dust off your car and some snow falls in the street, the Village of Mamaroneck won't come looking for you, but if you dump big mounds of snow right in the middle of the road, you might soon face a fine.

Mayor Norman Rosenblum says, "The primary reason now that it's brought to our attention is the safety reason. There were incidents where the fire department had to actually call the DPW to have a plow go in front of the fire department cause the trucks were getting stuck."

Officials suggest residents shovel or plow snow onto their lawns or on top of plowed mounds along the curb.

Mamaroneck is also thinking about imposing parking restrictions during snow emergencies and billined businesses and residents who routinely fail to clear their sidewalks.

Harrison is also considering parking restrictions and Port Chester wants to boost its maximum snow offense fine from $100 to $250.
