Dan Patrick Talks Landing Charlie Sheen On WFAN

NEW YORK (WFAN/The Wrap) - Dan Patrick, the ex-ESPN "SportsCenter" personality and host of the "Dan Patrick Show" on radio and DirecTV, explained how he nabbed the troubled "Two and a Half Men" star in an interview with Boomer & Carton on Thursday.

"We had him on last year," Patrick said. "We just talked baseball and memorabilia and Ricky Vaughn/'Wild Thing,'" a reference to Sheen's character in 1989's "Major League."

"And he said, 'Next time I come on, I want to have more time to talk.'"

Patrick continued: "He had given me his number. I saw where he went to UCLA to give a pep talk and take some batting practice. And given everything's he's gone through, I wasn't going to call him and say, 'Hey, what's up? Haven't read about you lately!' But I saw him giving the pep talk at UCLA and I thought, 'You know what, let's call him.'"

Patrick said his producer called Sheen on Friday, and that Sheen told him he'd love to come on Monday, but "wanted two segments, not one this time."

He told his producer to stay in touch with Sheen over the weekend because, as Patrick put it, "It's Charlie Sheen -- he could get lost on us."

Sheen texted Patrick's producer on Monday, "said he was ready to go and said, 'Here's the house number.' And that was it."

Patrick added: "We're trying to get Lindsay Lohan on today."

Patrick, who plays a nightclub owner in Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It," also explained how he's gotten a regular cameo slot in Sandler's movies.

"I saw Sandler at a Knicks game, and he came up to me and said, 'Your guy screwed me.' I was like, 'Who?' He said, 'Olbermann -- he was supposed to be in 'Happy Gilmore.'' I said, 'Alright, if you ever need an announcer, give me a call.' Then he called me up for 'The Waterboy' and he's called me ever since. I think I've been in seven of his movies."
